What is wrong with being yourself? Everywhere around me I see people trying to be exactly like their friends or changing their likes based on their friends, when honestly people are going to like you way more if you are you rather than being fake. The other day at BDO my friend and I recognised this girl from Field Day. We found it hilarious that she is standing there with her friends paying out dubstep and dance music. At Field Day she was having a ball running around dancing but 25days later because she was with a different bunch of friends she now hated it? Now if you follow me you will see that my music taste varies a lot, I will always be a punk/ hardcore girl at heart but I just love music whether it be rap, dance, pop, metal, if its catchy I will sing along, dance, pay money to go see shows and I do not care what others think. I have friend who look down on others because they don’t listen to “punk” and stuff like that who will forever point out to me “I can’t wait for the dubstep trend to end”.  I always respond with “I like it” if they were a true friend then they are not going to care. This is the same with everyone’s need to label someone. There was a girl waiting in the line for the bathrooms at BDO, her friends called her a hipster as they walked past her, I pretty much sighed and said out loud “what does that even mean, can people stop labelling others” (drunk Marissa is a very vocal Marissa) and she turned around smiled and was like” I totally agree”. I ended up chatting to her and this girl with the bob and floral dress was actually a big fan of metal music but like me was at BDO to see artists like Kanye West. She many have fallen into one stereotype by the way she dressed but when you chatted to her she was so much more. That’s why I don’t understand labels, we are too complex to be given one simple title. We might dress one way and might like completely different things. I also want to mention how people lie on the internet but I don’t think I even want to get started on that today, or even how people copy every aspect of other peoples lives. If you like something then listen to it, eat it, do it and ignore what every other person thinks! You can admit that you like twilight and hate Harry Potter, you can admit that you would prefer coffee over tea, you can admit that when you are home alone you like to rap along with the likes of Kanye West. More people are going to like the truthful you rather then the one who blends in with the rest.
